Cinèma Pathé Westside...
In addition to several independent cinemas like the Cinematte, Kellerkino and the cinema in the Fine Arts' Museum, the City of Bern has two big cinema companies: the Kitag and the Quinnie AG. Once a year in August, movie fans visit the "Marzili-Movie". During the summer months (July/August), the OrangeCinema is held - an open-air cinema - on the Grosse Schanze.
Films:
Films are usually shown in their original language in Switzerland, but with German and French subtitles. Some matinee performances, particularly of children's films, are shown in German.
Tickets:
It's usually possible to buy tickets for most cinema performances in advance or to book by phone or online.
Program:
The current cinema program can be found in the Bernese daily press. It can also be called up online.
Prices:
Admission is between CHF 13.00 and 17.00, depending on the cinema and location of the seat. In Swiss cinemas, seats are numbered and a distinction is made between the Parterre (front) and Estrade (back). Reduced prices are available for children up to 12 years, the disabled and old-age pensioners.
Tip: Admission is cheaper every Monday evening, and costs just CHF 12.00 for all categories.
Notes on the performances:
Most cinemas interrupt the performance halfway through the feature film for a 15-minute interval.
