Since it opened on 1 October 1918, the Kunsthalle Bern has introduced the public to a broad spectrum of Bernese, national and international art.

|
It has gained world renown with solo shows of artists like Klee, Giacometti, Moore, Johns, Lewitt, Nauman and Buren, and thematic exhibitions such as Harald Szeeman's When Attitudes Become Form. The Kunsthalle Bern views itself as a site for artistic debate and critical questioning of the phenomena of our times. There are six or seven Group and Solo Shows each year, plus a lively program of guided tours, lectures and discussions. Since May 1998 there has also been a project room, with its own curator, and an information room, which is given a new artistic conception each year.
