Einstein House

Bern
Bern

The physicist Albert Einstein retained close ties with Berne throughout his life (14.3.1879 - 18.4.1955). In 1977 the Albert Einstein Society was able to rent Einstein?s former flat on the second floor of Kramgasse 49, restore the original furnishings, and to open the site to the public as a tribute to the scientific achievements of this great scientist.

The Einstein House is in the centre of the Old City, some 200 metres below the Clock Tower. The pictures in the flat - Einstein?s home between 1903 and 1905 - give an insight into Einstein?s Bernese years.Copies of documents and some of his writings supply information on his scientific work. It is here that Einstein developed his special theory of relativity.
