365 days a year the zoological gardens with their 200 different animal species are open to be explored by visitors. Wild animals in their natural habitats can be observed in the unique riverside landscape.


The Zoological Gardens nestle between the River Aare and Dählhölzli Forest. The great variety of species includes exotic animals, such as the basilisk lizard (basiliskus plumifrons) in the tropical vivarium, free-flying butterflies and fire weavers, as well as European animals, such as fish otters, musk oxen, lynx, wolfs, elks, reindeer, ibises


Most areas of the Zoological Gardens can be explored free of charge. Admission charge for the vivarium and adjoining outdoor area only. All paths are wheelchair-accessible.

Directions
  • public transport:
    Bus line 19 from the main railway station to "Tierpark" stop, turn right into Thormannstrasse. The first information board is located on the edge of the wood.
  • car:
    A6 exit "Bern-Ostring" in the direction of the center (Zentrum). After about 1 km you come across the first signposts to the Zoological Gardens (Tierpark). Limited number of parking spaces!
